Scholarship applicants who are U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens must fill-out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), available at www.fafsa.ed.gov, and complete the financial aid process.
NOTE: Applicants must complete a FAFSA and include their SAR (student aid report) with their application.
The Philip Morris Careers in Teaching Scholarship is intended for students who are pursuing a degree in K-12 teaching. The amount of the scholarship will be $1000 for each eligible semester (summer semesters are not eligible). A recipient can receive the scholarship for two academic years, but must submit documentation that he/she has passed the Basic Skills Test before the scholarship can be renewed for the second academic year.

The scholarship funds will be applied to the recipient’s outstanding balance with the college and any remaining credit balance will be refunded to the recipient. Applicants must submit all application materials to the Truman College Financial Aid Office by September 15th of the academic year.

Application Procedure:
• New Applicants
- Complete the CCC Scholarship Application (available on the CCC scholarships website)
- Submit a typed, one page essay that answers the question, “Why are you pursing a career in teaching?”
- Submit two letters of recommendation. One letter must be from a teacher/professor and one letter must be from an organization or church with which the student has completed volunteer service. Recommenders can use the CCC Recommendation Form
- Have the appropriate FAFSA with the Truman College School Code on file and have submitted all required documents to the Financial Aid Office

• 2nd year Applicants
- 2nd year applicants do not need to complete the application process again. As long as renewal applicant meets the criteria outlined above, he/she only needs to submit a copy of his/her scores for the Basic Skills Test by the scholarship deadline for the academic year (September 15th) AND
- Have the appropriate FAFSA with the Truman College School Code on file and have submitted all required documents to the Financial Aid Office
Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility Criteria:
• ACADEMIC MERIT
- First year cumulative GPA of 2.8 or above in City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) classes OR
- If not a previous CCC student the following:
* a GED Score of 2600 or above (must submit score report) OR
* a high school diploma with a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or above (must submit a copy of the U.S. diploma, foreign high school diplomas must be evaluated by Educational Perspectives) OR
* a recent college transcript with a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or above (must submit a copy of the transcript).
• Demonstrate financial need – Applicant must complete the appropriate FAFSA with the Truman College School Code (001648), submit all required documents to the Financial Aid Office, and have an Expected Family Contribution of 8000 or less.
• U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Residency - As verified by the FAFSA process.
• Chicago Residency – Chicago has to be the applicant’s true, fixed, and permanent place of residency and have been since 30 days prior to the beginning of the academic year.
• Declared education major – Major is declared through the Office of Admissions.
• Cannot have or be working toward a graduate degree.
• Enrolled in a minimum of 6 hours of degree-eligible coursework at Truman College (pre-credit courses are not counted) for each term the scholarship is awarded.

RENEWAL CRITERIA:
• Recipient must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above in CCC classes.
• Recipient must complete a minimum of 75% of credit hours for which he/she enrolls each semester that he/she receives the scholarship.
• In order to be renewed for the 2nd year, the applicant must present a score report for the Basic Skills Test with a passing score.
