Scholarship applicants who are U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens must fill-out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), available at www.fafsa.ed.gov, and complete the financial aid process. NOTE: Applicants must complete a FAFSA and include their SAR (student aid report) with their application. Immigrant and undocumented students must be pre-qualified under the Scholarship Qualification Process prior to applying for this scholarship. |

• Graduate from the Chicago Police and Firefighters Training Academy • Enroll in a degree granting program at the City Colleges of Chicago • Submit CPFTA Certificate of Completion • Submit a Federal Financial Aid Form (FASFA) Eligible awardees must maintain enrollment in a degree granting program during the award period. The scholarship will cover the cost of tuition and fees associated with college credit course work. The scholarship may be used in the fall and spring terms only. The scholarship is not available for the summer semester. The scholarship is renewable for two consecutive semesters: however, students must apply each semester (by completing the scholarship renewal process in the Student Services Office) and maintain the required grade point average to qualify for continued eligibility. The Chicago Police and Firefighters Training Academy Scholarships are tuition and fee-based scholarships. Students whose total tuition and fee expenses are met through the Pell Grant, Monetary Award Program (MAP) or other financial awards are not eligible to receive this scholarship. Students whose total tuition and expenses are NOT met after financial aid funds have been applied will have the difference of the applicable charges paid by the CPFTA Scholarship. Chicago Police and Firefighters Training Academy (CPFTA) Scholarship Requirements and Conditions 1. The CPFTA scholarship is for attendance at one of the seven City Colleges of Chicago. 2. Students must complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the year the scholarship is used. The student must first apply all federal and/or state financial aid awarded toward tuition and fees; any remaining tuition or fee expenses will be met by the Chicago Police and Firefighters Training Academy Scholarship. 3. CPFTA Scholarship Awards are valid for a twelve (12) month period from the date of the student’s CPFTA graduation or high school graduation, whichever is later. The student MUST enroll in one of the City Colleges of Chicago during the twelve (12) month period in order to take advantage of the CPFTA Scholarship Award. 4. The CPTFA Police and Firefighter Training Academy Scholarship can only be used for college credit courses taken at one of the City Colleges of Chicago. 5. All students must complete the General Placement Test. (The General Placement Exam is not required for students who received high school ACT scores of at least 19 in Math and 21 in Reading). 6. CPFTA Scholarship recipients must maintain a minimum of 12 semester hours beyond the mid-term date in each term the scholarship is applied. For the purposes of this grant, PCI course credit hours will be counted toward the required 12 semester hours. 7. The CPFTA Scholarship is renewable for two consecutive semesters (excluding summers). a. The scholarship will be cancelled if a recipient does not register for a fall or spring term within the two semester period of eligibility. 8. CPFTA Scholarship recipients must submit a renewal form each term to retain eligibility. 9. CPFTA Scholarship recipients must maintain a minimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average (GPA). Only courses taken at one of the City Colleges of Chicago may be used to calculate cumulative GPA. The cumulative grade point average is measured on the last day of the academic term. a. The scholarship will not cover classes where the students does not earn a grade of “C” or better. 10. The maximum award will cover the cost of tuition and fees ONLY. 11. The CPFTA Scholarship does not include the cost of textbooks. 12. All funds will be applied to the student’s account. 13. Failure to meet the minimum conditions of the scholarship will result in the denial of future awards. |
